Explore the Magic Tools →Honeymoon packing goes wrong in one of two ways. Either the suitcase is filled with things nobody uses, or the passports are in the bag that went to the wrong airport. The Honeymoon Packing List Generator builds a list for your actual trip, destination type, season, length and planned activities, and puts the documents section first because that is the part that ruins a trip when it goes missing.
You choose from beach and tropical, city and cultural, mountain and adventure, cruise, safari, or ski; how long you are going; what the season will be; and which activities you have planned. The list that comes back is grouped into documents, clothing, toiletries, tech and honeymoon extras, with the quantities adjusted for the number of nights.
Documents first, and the expiry rule people miss
The tool leads with paperwork for a reason. A passport needs at least six months of validity remaining for most destinations, and that requirement is enforced regardless of when you plan to fly home. Checking it now costs nothing; discovering it a month before the wedding is the part that cannot be fixed quickly.
The rest of the baseline list is short and unglamorous: printed confirmation for the hotel and the flights, travel insurance documents with the emergency number written out, credit cards with a little local currency, a copy of everything kept separately from the originals, and a written emergency contact list.
If the trip is international, the list adds the country-specific layer: visas, electronic travel authorisations such as ESTA, vaccination records where the destination requires them, and an international driving permit if you plan to drive.
Clothing, worked out for the destination and the length
Clothing is where the list earns its keep, because the quantities change with the number of nights and the counts differ by destination. A beach trip builds around two or three swimsuits, cover-ups, light sundresses, sandals, evening outfits, and a white linen outfit for arrival photographs. A city trip is built on smart casual outfits with one formal evening outfit and shoes you can walk in all day.
Mountain and adventure trips start with moisture-wicking base layers, a fleece mid-layer, a waterproof shell, convertible hiking trousers, boots that are already broken in, and merino socks. Cruises add formal dinner attire for the formal nights. Ski trips bring thermals, a fleece, ski socks, and a decision about whether to bring or hire the outer layers. Safari trips start with a colour rule: khaki, tan and olive work, white and bright colours do not.
Across all of them the tool scales the outfit count to the trip length, so a three-to-five-day break and a three-week trip produce genuinely different lists rather than the same list with a footnote.
Toiletries and health
The baseline is travel sizes of your normal routine, SPF 50 for face and body, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner or confirmation that the hotel supplies them, and prescription medication in its labelled packaging with a copy of the prescription.
Destination extras then layer on top. Beach trips add after-sun, reef-safe sunscreen where the destination requires it, and waterproof makeup. Adventure trips add insect repellent, blister patches, and altitude medication if the itinerary goes high enough to matter. Every trip adds the small pharmacy nobody wants to think about until they need it: motion sickness tablets, pain relief, antihistamines, plasters and antiseptic wipes.
Tech, and the honeymoon extras
Phone, charger, universal adapter for international travel, a power bank, and earphones cover the basics. If photography is on the activity list, the list expands to a camera with spare batteries and memory cards, a tripod or gorilla pod, and a lens cleaning kit. A waterproof phone case or dry bag appears for beach trips and is worth having regardless of how careful you plan to be.
Then there is a small section that exists only because it is a honeymoon. A card or letter to exchange on the first morning. A journal. A short written list of things you both want to do. Printed photographs of the wedding day, since the full gallery will almost certainly not be ready before you fly.
Carry on the things you cannot replace
The one rule worth following regardless of the list: medication, documents, jewellery, chargers and one complete change of clothes travel in the cabin with you. If a checked bag goes astray, the first day is an inconvenience rather than a crisis.
Print the list rather than keeping it only on a phone, so you can tick items off as they go into the case. And pack before the wedding rather than the morning after, because the morning after is not a moment when anyone is thinking clearly about adapters and passports.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most commonly forgotten honeymoon item?
Travel adapters and a copy of the documents kept separately from the originals. Both are cheap, both are easy to buy on arrival in most destinations, and both cause disproportionate stress when they are missing.
How many outfits should I pack for a beach honeymoon?
The tool scales this to the trip length, landing between three outfits for a short break and twelve for three weeks or more. Add swimwear at two to three and cover-ups at two, and plan to wash if the trip runs long.
Do I need to bring a hairdryer?
Only if you rely on a specific one. Most hotels and resorts provide them, and for international travel a hairdryer is one of the most common causes of blown adapters because of the wattage it draws.
What should we pack in hand luggage?
Medications, documents and jewellery, chargers, and a full change of clothes for each of you. That combination covers you for a lost bag without turning the first day into an errand.
Is the list different if we travel straight from the wedding?
Slightly, because the wedding outfit and gifts you are given will be part of the luggage. Pack the honeymoon case before the wedding and leave the wedding items to be consolidated afterwards rather than trying to fit everything in one bag.
What if we are visiting several climates in one trip?
Run the generator for each destination type and merge the lists, then cut on quantity rather than categories. Packing layers handles temperature changes far better than packing two complete wardrobes.
