How the allocation is built

The calculator follows the proportions that US weddings actually settle into, rather than an idealised plan. Roughly half of a typical budget goes to the venue and catering combined, because those two lines scale directly with headcount and are the hardest to renegotiate once signed. Photography and videography take around 10 to 12 percent. Attire, beauty, and the wedding party sit near 8 percent. Flowers and decor land around 8 to 10 percent. Music and entertainment take 6 to 8 percent, stationery and invitations 3 to 4 percent, and transport and favours the remainder.

Two movements matter more than the rest. Changing your guest count moves the venue and catering lines. Where budgets actually break

The categories that overrun most often are not the ones couples worry about. Flowers and decor overrun when the installed arrangements cost more than the stems, because labour and delivery are separate lines. Stationery overruns because postage, calligraphy, and a second printing are each their own surprise. Attire overruns because alterations and cleaning are quoted after the purchase.
